A painful but possible solution is to seal the wound with something hot like a metal heated on a flame. It is not guaranteed to work nor is it ideal, but it does give a chance to live, assuming you don't die of shock from the pain

But again, that'd only be an option if he had somebody to start the fire. He'll bleed out by the time he gets one going if he wasn't applying pressure on the wound
